Windows basic knowledge

You must have heard of or even used computers running Microsoft Windows. Microsoft Windows is known to almost every one in this world now. I remember when I was in the third grade in junior high school, I heard of Microsoft Windows 95 for the first time (in early 1997). A year before then, I heard of Microsoft Windows 3.1 for the first time. I didn't know them earlier because of two reasons: I was in China; I hadn't accepted good education on computer at that time. Computers were not widely used in China at that moment. I even didn't know what a "root directory" was at that time.

But Microsoft Windows series spread at an amazing speed that nowadays almost everyone who knows computer knows Windows. Windows has been easily accepted by everyone because it was easy to use. Since visual development tools were developed, programmers began to think that it would be easy to program on Windows in the future. Actually, Windows was easy to use. So for the users, Windows is almost ideal. To tell the truth, design of Windows is not entirely original. Apple Corporation released their graphic user interface operating system earlier than Microsoft did. The important difference is, Windows runs on PCs, and PCs were cheaper than computers produced by Apple Corporation. So Windows won the first place in the market very quickly.

There are so many things that can be talked about Windows, such as why Windows is easy to use, how Windows works, and what can be done in Windows. I am less than an expert. I can only tell you what I know. So let me talk about what I know.

I want to talk about Windows 3.x first.

And maybe you want to see new features in Windows 95, 98, Me and NT 4.0, 2000.

As we all know, Norton Utilities is a good product of Symantec Corporation. I've collected some useful documents from its help. I think they are helpful to both you and me. Here is something from the Norton Utilities Help.
