DOSKEY Loads the Doskey program into memory. The Doskey program recalls MS-DOS commands and enables you to edit command lines and create and run macros. Note: If your typing speed is not very fast, use DOSKEY when you use MS-DOS on the command line. For example, you typed a command, and then you want to run it again, you can recall the command easily by just pressing the UP ARROW key. Although you can press F3 key to recall the command you just typed without running DOSKEY, DOSKEY preserves much more commands which you can recall using the UP ARROW key. Addtionally, by using DOSKEY, you can modify the command you are typing. You can move the cursor back to the place of the command where you want modify, without deleting any of the command. If you don't use DOSKEY, by default, when you press the LEFT ARROW key, the character before the cursor will be deleted. By default, DOSKEY starts with overwrite mode. You can start DOSKEY with the switch "/insert" to make it run in insert mode. In Windows Me, when you start a command prompt, by default, DOSKEY is running in insert mode. In Windows NT 4, you have to modify the properties of the Command Console to change the mode of default DOSKEY mode (the default is overwrite mode). In Windows 2000 it is almost the same case as in Windows Me. In Windows 9x, by default, Doskey is not automatically loaded with the command prompt.
